We are pleased to announce that Swarco have joined up with the collaboration team to assist with the design and development works associated with the new rapid electric vehicle chargers. Swarco will participate during the project trial period, collecting data which shall be used for analysis of performance and user experiences. Upon successful completion of the DC Share project, intention is for Swarco to own and operate the rapid charges as part of their normal business.
Bespoke red ducting (within which the DC power cable will be laid) has been procured and delivered to site in readiness for installation within the Coal Orchard development site. This ducting will be buried as per WPD's procedures and aligned with the site selection cable routings map. It was determined that red ducting was required (rather than the standard black ducting) to aid identification and provide an extra warning safety measure for WPD staff should repair works ever be required on the DC cable in the future.
The WPD distribution substations in Taunton town centre have been assessed to verify suitability for integration into the planned DC ring. Several substation sites have been identified as being suitable and the final design has been concluded. Please refer to the "Site Selection Report" accessed via the Library page.
